Klaus Zellmer, former director of Škoda, is the new CEO of Volvo Cars.

The executive will assume leadership in October 2027, succeeding Håkan Samuelsson; Volvo seeks to regain market share.

Volvo Cars announced on Sunday, the 20th, that Klaus Zellmer will be the brand’s new president and CEO. He is expected to assume the position on October 1, 2027, succeeding Håkan Samuelsson.

With over 30 years of experience, one of Zellmer’s career highlights was his role as CEO of Škoda at the Volkswagen Group, since 2022.

The announcement follows Volvo Cars’ strategy to boost sales of the brand, which is facing a delicate moment with the ban on Polestar, its sister brand, selling new vehicles from the 2027 model year onwards.

The brand has also struggled to meet profitability targets due to tariffs, lower demand for its electric models, and high vehicle development costs. Furthermore, its shares have already fallen by more than 45% this year.

Volvo’s offensive includes launching 13 models.

Last week, Volvo Cars held a strategic event in which Samuelsson announced that the brand will launch 13 models by 2030, aiming to recover growth and expand its share of the global automotive market.

This measure also attempts to offset the brand’s declining sales in China while simultaneously dealing with US tariffs. As part of the strategy, the automaker will launch six models for China and another seven for the Western market separately.
